What is solid botanical perfume?

Most of you associate the word "perfume" with an elegant spray bottle, but the earliest natural fragrances, dating back to ancient Egypt, were made in the form of "unguents" or balms using oils, waxes, resins and aromatic plant based ingredients.

The "botanical" part refers to the fragrance components of the perfume, in this case ingredients exclusively sourced from plants: flowers, grasses, spices, fruit, wood, roots, resins, balsams, leaves and gums.
When I started formulating botanical perfume, I found refined jojoba oil to be the cleanest available carrier, as it's completely odorless, very stable and nourishing for skin and hair. When mixed with pure soy wax, jojoba oil creates the most luxurious silky soft balm, which instantly sinks into the skin with no residue and no oily feeling. All my formulations include a small amount of floral wax, a by-product of essential oil extraction, which lends an almost velvety consistency to the perfume, not to mention an additional layer of beautiful fragrance notes.
While alcohol based perfumes generally have better projection and silage (the strength / length of the trail they leave behind), solid perfumes are the definition of an intimate experience. From application to wear, its all between you and your favorite scent.

The process of mixing a solid perfume is as simple as its ingredients - the aromatics are added to the carrier oil,  blended with the melted waxes at just the right temperature, then hand poured into individual pots. Once cooled, each container is carefully labeled and packaged.

To apply, glide your fingers across the compact to warm up the wax and pick up just the right amount of fragrance. Then, dab your fingers gently on to your pulse points (wrists, neck, and behind the ears), just as you would liquid perfume. The warmth of your skin will help retain the scent and keep you smelling divine for hours. Additionally, I love applying a small drop of perfume on the ends of my hair, for a complete sensory immersion.
